World War II-era planes will streak across the sky and both Mayor Victor Gonzales and school Superintendent Doug Killian will speak at this year’s Pflugerville Veterans Day Ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Pfluger Park.
The annual event is a celebration of military personnel young and old and the oftentimes thankless role they play in ensuring freedom and safety of American citizens. The city has held the ceremony the past several years near the creek running through Pfluger Park.
The mid-day ceremony is typically well attended, which mirrors the high number of veterans living in the city. A recent study by a consultant group showed 12 percent of Pflugerville residents have served in the military — compared to 7.8 percent in the Austin metro area and 8.2 percent statewide.
